Roll up Your Sleeve and Join Nick In Saving Lives by Donating Blood

Everyone wants to help, but sometimes you don’t know where to start. Maybe you don’t have a ton of money to give to a charity, or you don’t have a ton of time to volunteer. In my mind, there is something you can do that takes very little time, ZERO dollars, and can literally save someone’s life.

Please consider donating blood.

Blood donation is the most efficient way to help your fellow human being. The most bang for your buck, if you will. Your commitment is very small while the positive outcomes it produces can be HUGE.

I’ve partnered with Versiti Blood Centers of Illinois to spread the word about the importance of blood donation. I’m doing this because it’s important. I am not getting compensated. I just want to make sure as many people who CAN donate DO donate.

When you donate with Versiti, your donation is sent to local hospitals to help save the lives of people in our community…some of which could be only a few degrees separation from you or your friends.

I’m sure you’ve heard before that “blood donations are at an all-time low!” I feel like we’ve heard that for a long time, right?! I’ll admit, it passed through one ear and out the other for a long time, but consider this: The largest source of blood donations is schools. You don’t need me to tell you how the state of schools over the last two years could impact blood donation…but I WILL! Versiti has been down nearly FORTY PERCENT in donations because of the lack of ability for schools and businesses to host blood drives. That’s about 20,000 unites of blood.

TWENTY-FREAKING-THOUSAND

Then consider that every two-seconds someone needs blood to survive, including kids like Rhett.

Cancer patients, organ transplant recipients, heart surgery patients,  accident victims, burn victims, and many others with various afflictions all NEED blood. There is no substitute.

Here’s the good news: I’m here to tell you there are still opportunities out there to donate.

There are blood drives happening all over the western suburbs. All you have to do is put in your zip code and you can find them on Versiti’s website.

Versiti also have blood donations centers in Joliet, Yorkville, Aurora, Naperville, Westmont, Winfield, DeKalb, Geneva, Elgin, Tinley Park, Bloomingdale, and Crystal Lake.

If you own or manage a business, please consider HOSTING a donation, or giving your employees paid time off to donate.
