Romeoville Hosts Ukrainian Youth Hockey Team Raising Funds for Rink Destroyed by Russian Bombs

I’d like to extend a giant welcome to the kids, coaches and families from a youth hockey team out of Kharkiv, Ukraine who are in town, not only to play the game they love and enjoy some semblance of normalcy, but also to help rebuild their home.

Their home ice was destroyed by Russian bombs early in the conflict. They have been witnessing similar bombings and atrocities ever since…something no one, especially children, should have to endure.

Now, the “Berserkers” as they are known, are traveling the world playing the sport they love and raising money to build a new home rink.

They are participating in the Hockey for Heroes Global Showcase this weekend at the Canlan Ice Arena in Romeoville with teams from the US, Canada and another team from other parts of the world.

Throughout the Berserks visit, Help Heroes of Ukraine and CDT teams will host events for the Ukrainian players, coaches and families at Top Golf, Tour of Downtown Chicago, plus attendance at a Chicago Blackhawks game and a Florida Panthers game. Of course they will be exposed to various dishes around the city, training at The Cube Training Center and join several media days in Chicago.

After their event here in the suburbs, they will travel to Florida for a few more charity tournaments.
