Some Powerful Moments From Ukraine That Struck Me

It’s a scary time for the world right now. We have a dictator within arm’s reach of nuclear weapons attacking another nation. The good news is Ukraine is holding them back! The bad news is Ukraine is holding them back. I’m shutter to think what would happen when the Russian Who Shall Not Be Named feels he’s on the bring of losing.

What I prefer to focus on is the Ukrainian people. I can’t say I knew much about them a week ago, but I think we’ve all learned how tough and loyal they truly are! There have been many instances of bravery on display, but here are a few that I can’t stop thinking about.

First…the sunflower seed lady. The guts it takes to walk up to an armed, occupying soldier and say what she said is as shocking as it is inspiring.

These citizens aren’t just all talk either. Many have taken up arms and have even given new meaning to the term “cocktail party.”

Another thing that continues to amaze me is the fearless attitude of Ukrainian leaders, both at the national and municipal level.

President Zelensky has given us some quotes for the ages:

“As you attack, it will be our faces you see, not our backs.”

When offered aid to evacuation , he stated: “We need ammunition, not a ride.”

And when asked his thoughts on the on-going negotiations, he said, “”I will say frankly, as always: I do not really believe in the result of this meeting, but let them try. So that no citizen of Ukraine would have any doubt that I, as president, did not try to stop the war when there was even a small chance.”

This guy is THE MAN.

And if you are thinking, I wish we had leaders like that, I present to you Staff Sgt. David Bellavia of the United States Army. He’s a Medal of Honor recipient, and during his award speech in 2019, he delivered these lines that will give you some goosebumps and remind you the mentality and power of the US military.

These are just a few of countless similar moments.

I pray that peace negotiations are fruitful, but if they are not, you know the Ukrainians aren’t going down without a fight.

They are all giving us a lesson in real patriotism.
