The Glitz and Glamour of this years’ Kentucky Derby…Take a peek!

Are you ready for an overload of Mint Julep conversations and big hats?  Well, get ready because the first leg of the triple crown of Horse Racing hits the track tomorrow.

Check out all the fun you might be missing?

The first leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown takes place tomorrow with the Kentucky Derby.  The 145th Run for the Roses goes off around 5:50 p.m. Central at Churchill Downs.  Game Winner is the new favorite after previous favorite Omaha Beach was scratched earlier this week.  The second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, is May 18th.

Front Office Sports says $238 million is going to be wagered on the Kentucky Derby this year. That’s up $13 million from last year.

120,000 mint juleps will be served during the Kentucky Derby weekend.

The winner of the Derby will take home $1.86 million

The average Kentucky Derby hat costs $1,000.

The Kentucky Derby Museum Gift Shop is selling Mint Julep Twinkies. They cost $4 a piece.

Their description reads: ”Treat yourself to some delectable sweets this Holiday, courtesy of Louisville locally-owned and operated FDL Chocolates. These twinkies are dipped in decadent milk chocolate and flavored with authentic Kentucky Bourbon and mint. Sold individually.”

The NY Post says Dixieland Preserves is selling the turds of a former Kentucky Derby winning horse. “Silver Charm” won the 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. His turds have been preserved in 16-ounce mason jars by Kentucky artist Coleman Larkin. 100 limited edition jars are being sold for $200 each.

Larkin says he spent many hours learning how to properly preserve horse poop. “It took months to figure out how to do it, but I finally cracked the code.”

Kentucky whiskey maker Woodford Reserve is selling a $1,000 mint julep at the Kentucky Derby. It features a metal-plated cup, a gold-plated straw and ice “made of gold-filtered mineral water.” Gold-plated cups cost $2,500

The Kentucky Derby encourages women to wear hats to the race.

The site reads: Wearing a hat to the Kentucky Derby is believed to bear good luck! The long-established fashion was started by the women, however, over the last few years, many men have taken part in the tradition as well. Wearing a hat is much like getting into costume, you might be pleasantly surprised to see what type of character you become. From the fantastic to the sublime, there are no rules or limits.
