The knight awaits me!

No disrespect intended for the rest of my Christmas presents — they were all great — but the coolest thing I got was something my wife bought back in October:  tickets to see Sir Elton John at the Allstate on February 15th!

I could have put up a nice picture of the tickets, but in these days of bar codes, I didn’t want to take a chance.  Not that I don’t trust you guys, but there are baddies out there, some of them even infiltrating our beloved group of River listeners.  I really don’t need to get to the show only to find out my tickets have “already been used”.

Anyway, I’ve been a pretty big fan of Elton John since the mid-70’s and even that was a little late to the party.  Once I heard “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, I was hooked.  But in all that time, for some reason, I’ve never even seen him once in concert!  Even back when tickets to huge shows were like 20 bucks!

Elton of course has changed quite a bit over the years — he’s really mellowed.  But I’m pretty sure he hasn’t lost touch with his rock and roll roots.  So along with “Circle of Life” and “Little Jeannie”, I’m hoping to hear “Saturday Night’s Alright” and “The Bitch is Back”.  I suppose “Funeral For a Friend” would be too much to hope for, but wouldn’t that be cool?

Either way, I’m anticipating a great show as he says “Farewell, Yellow Brick Road”!
