The OTHER Jewel of Joliet
I must have passed by this place hundreds, if not thousands, of times growing up in the Joliet area.
The Bird Haven Greenhouse and Conservatory, run by the Joliet Park District, is located at Pilcher Park. The entrance is off of Gougar Road, which was right next to my alma mater, Providence Catholic. I must have passed it hundreds, if not thousands, of times, but this past weekend was my very first visit.
And WOW is it beautiful!

The Greenhouse & Conservatory was constructed at its current site in the early 1900’s. This Italian Renaissance-style facility, designed by Lord and Burnham Company, features spectacular floral shows with seasonal motifs during the fall, winter, and spring. Year-round attractions are offered with a tropical house, cacti room, and show house.
They rent out the greenhouse for events and weddings, and you can even sign up to take professional photographs on the grounds.
The outside is gorgeous and the perfect spot for a picnic! It’s also the start/end of a few trails through Pilcher Park for everyone that enjoys being in the great outdoors.
