The public is invited to attend upcoming services for a Vietnam veteran from Elgin, whose relatives have yet to come forward.
John James Murphy was 71 years old when he died on Dec. 18 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, and authorities have not been able to get in contact with his family members.
Symonds-Madison Funeral Home (in Elgin) owners Dan and Joy Symonds told the news source that people are invited to attend services whether you knew Murphy or would like to pay your respects to a veteran. Visitation will be held today at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. and procession is set to leave around noon for interment, with military honors at 2 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on Hoff Road in Elwood).
John James Murphy was a jet engine mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1969 and earned many awards.
The funeral home will keep his flag for his relatives in case they come forward, the Symonds told the Daily Herald.
