So I have truly struggled with my mood this week. I think it is mostly due to the early darkness and cold that has been sprung upon us. I just wasn’t ready to get into the winter mode… not just yet. I know I will get out of this funk soon because once the holidays start getting closer there is so much fun to be had.
This brings me to one of my favorite winter time traditions. Hot Chocolate. My boys grew up associating Hot Chocolate with snow. Essentially any romp in the snow was always followed with a hot chocolate (sometime I wondered if they just went out for a short time … built a rather substandard snowman just so they could come back in for the hot chocolate.) We liked to experiment with our hot chocolate. We have melted all sorts of candy bars in our drink – added flavored creamers and marshmallows of every variety.
Of course when it came to the grown ups – we could turn our hot chocolates up a notch… there was Baileys, Frangelico, Amaretto and of course the old school Peppermint Schnapps.
If you are having a holiday gathering … a Hot Chocolate Bar is tons of fun. You can get really creative with things to add. Candy Canes, Hershey Kisses, Sprinkles and of course whipped cream and marshmallows.
To follow is my favorite crockpot hot chocolate recipe. (As you can see… it’s very low cal … NOT!!)
