It was on June 16th, 1980 that the Blues Brothers movie opened in Chicago.
What a movie! Here’s some Blues Brothers trivia:
- 103 cars were wrecked during filming (a record at the time).
- The Bluesmobile reached speeds of 118 mph under the El tracks.
- Supposedly, John Belushi lost hundreds of pairs of sunglasses during filming.
- In 2010, a Vatican newspaper called the film a “Catholic classic” and recommended it as good viewing for Catholics.
Of course the Blues Brothers wasn’t just hilarious, it also featured a fabulous soundtrack.
The entire cast was huge and filled with many Hollywood stars. The list of singers alone includes James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Chaka Khan, Steve Lawrence and Joe Walsh.
It’s Father’s Day weekend, and many Dads would love to watch this Jake & Elwood classic all over again.
