Tiger At Bronx Zoo Tests Positive For COVID-19 In ‘First Of Its Kind’ Case

There’s a coronavirus outbreak currently at the Bronx Zoo – but not among guests – who haven’t been allowed inside since March 16.

A 4-year-old female Malayan tiger named Nadia has become the first of her kind to test positive for COVID-19 after developing a dry cough, according to a press release from the zoo. Another tiger and three African lions have since been exhibiting symptoms.

Officials at the famed New York City zoo believe the big cats caught the infection from an asymptomatic zookeeper who had been caring for them.

The zoo says that while the animals have “experienced some decrease in appetite,” they are expected to make a full recovery.

I’m not a doctor or a veterinarian, but I’d have to think we should be slightly concerned for our pets at this point, right?
