Van Roth vs Van Hagar

Happy Friday! It’s Chris Miles filling in for Nick. I’m sure the subject line has got you all wondering what’s going on. It has to do with today’s Unscientific Poll question. I have a feeling it’s going to garner some comments (send them to me a [email protected] if you’d like) and that’s OK. Sometimes the tough questions have to be asked  I’ll go first, for me it will always be Van Roth! Don’t get me wrong, Van Hagar has some awesome tunes but I grew up on “1984”, I mean I am an 80’s kid so there’s that.

First,  let’s do today in music history, then we can get to the poll.

Today would have been Bon Scott’s (AC/DC) 75th birthday. In honor of that the family has created an official website bonscottofficial.com  There will be cool merch to purchase and can chance for fans to make comments and share their experiences with or about him.

On this date in 1995 – Jerry Garcia performs his last concert with the Grateful Dead at Soldier Field.  Interestingly, no one knew this would be Garcia’s last show, even Garcia himself.  As Garcia would died exactly one month later at a rehab center after suffering a heart attack.

In 2004 David Bowie is forced to cancel a string of European shows after emergency heart surgery the previous month for an acutely blocked artery.

July 9, 1999 – Elton John collapsed on a jet on his way to sing at the wedding of Posh Spice and David Beckham.  He would have a pacemaker installed at a London hospital as he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

On this day in 1977 – Elvis Costello quits his day job at Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics to become a full time musician. He said, “My duties included printing out invoices for the moustache waxes of the occasional Duchess who visited the company’s West End salon.”

And now on to the poll!
