Earlier in the week I was talking about the interesting relationship between Axl Rose and Elton John.   They seem like a bit of an unlikely pair but Elton has always been a big influence on Axl’s music career.    John was always an inspiration for Rose; they even performed together at the MTV Video Music Awards and the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. As Rose shared from the Rock Hall induction stage,  (when he inducted Elton John) it was actually a Goodbye Yellow Brick Road song that inspired him to pursue a career in music: “When I first heard ‘Bennie and the Jets,’ I knew I had to be a performer,” he told the audience.

So one of the most obvious homage to Elton John that Guns N’ Roses put out … has to be my choice for tonight’s Music Challenge question.  The parallels between Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain” and Elton John’s “Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding,” the opening medley from 1973’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road are hard to miss.

So in honor of both those fab piano intro’s … I give you the rather brilliant November Rain (which also happens to be a pretty amazing video)

Now pop over to Facebook and share your favorite song featuring the ivory keys…(also never buy ivory … #ElephantsRule)
