So tonight I wanted to give a shout out to the super fun #RiverRiffs that Mitch Michaels does every day at 3.40 on 95.9 The River.   Initially I was going to ask what is your favorite riff but my  head became so full of riffs  from the iconic I Can’t Get No Satisfaction  to the outstanding Smells Like Teen Spirit.   It was too hard .  Honestly when it comes to electric riffs I can’t choose a favorite … I mean come on the KINKS … LED ZEPPELIN … AEROSMITH … how do you choose … UGH

So I decided to simplify it … both literally and figuratively.   I thought we would just look at acoustic guitar riffs.  Yup we are going to unplug.   I mean an acoustic riff has such a different vibe than an electric riff but when done well it really is equally good.  Life is kinda crazy right now so we could probably all use a little bit of the less is more vibe of acoustic riffs.

What is a Wonderwall you ask … well …the song was originally titled “Wishing Stone”. Noel Gallagher of Oasis and writer of the song told NME in 1996, that “Wonderwall” was written for his then-girlfriend (later wife), Meg Mathews.  However, after Gallagher divorced Mathews in 2001, he said the song was not about Mathews: “The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it, and how do you tell your Mrs it’s not about her once she’s read it is? It’s a song about an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself”  Okay Noel … we believe you (NOT).
