When Sounds Drive You Bonkers

Are certain sounds like nails on a chalkboard to you? Not generally speaking – specific sounds.

Maybe the sound of someone chewing or singing or typing? And not a simply slight annoyance but an emotional response such as intense anger or sadness? If so, you might have Misophonia.

According to WebMD, it’s “a disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that someone might perceive as unreasonable give the circumstances.”

NPR recently highlighted the disorder and the life of an 18-year-old named Ellie.

I know that we laugh a lot about how I won’t be able to share a bed with my future husband if he snores, but I’m serious when I say that I hate the sound of snoring. It literally makes me feel stressed out when I hear snoring… so it get it!
