Why You Should Care About Pastor Corey Brooks

Hi, this is Leslie Harris, and sometimes Chicago seems like a world away from us here in the western suburbs, especially the south side.

I don’t have to tell you how cold it’s been, but nonetheless, Pastor Corey Brooks is doing a rooftop campout, in order to raise money to stop the violence in some of the city’s most troubled neighborhoods.

Pastor Brooks is out to raise $35 million to bring resources, construction certification, job training, entrepreneur training, and recreation to the city’s South side. He started camping on November 20th, 2021 and will continue until February 28th, 2022.

He is on the roof everyday all day and does not leave for any reason. He said, “It is a sacrifice to be away from my family and church, but I believe we, as a city and community, can change *O block to opportunity block.”

‘O Block’ is considered the most dangerous block in Chicago.

Like it or not, we here in the western suburbs are intricately tied to what’s happening in Chicago and it would benefit all of us to help this troubled neighborhood. Just think of how wonderful it would be if we could band together to help change this area, if together, we could stop the violence that plagues the city.
