Wildlife In The Suburbs

Do you know that you don’t have to live in the country to see plenty of wildlife? Hi, John Calhoun here. I live in the suburbs and I’ve seen all sorts of animals in my own yard, or nearby.

Lions & tigers & bears, oh my!  Well, not exactly, but I have spotted every one of these:

• Skunk
• Opossum
• Coyote
• Deer
• Raccoon

Add to that list, the rabbits, squirrels and  birds common to the area.

Yesterday I was surprised to see this bird (picture) in my neighbor’s tree. I believe it’s a red-tailed hawk.

If you want to see an alligator, you may have to visit Chicago. However, there are lots of other creatures to observe right here in the suburbs.  And tell the kids that skunks are not black & white cats!
