So today is World Poetry Day.  A day to celebrate all the great poets of the world.  The rock ‘n’ roll world is full of poets.  The only difference between Lennon, Dylan and Nicks is that their poetry is set to music.   Remember the days of pouring over the lyrics on an album cover … that was pure poetry.

So I told you that I used to work in an elementary school library?  So little kids love poetry but they start to waiver a bit in 4th grade.  Suddenly kiddos are too cool for poetry and poems are lame.   That is when I introduced them to the poetry of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  It’s amazing when you show kids that their favorite musicians are poets, they suddenly find other poetry not so lame after all.

So the Beatles In My Life has been lauded as some of the most fab lyrics … true poetry and I was going to post that but then I had to go with my favorite gypsy poet … So here on #WorldPoetryDay …. here is … Landslide

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me down
Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m gettin’ older, too
