Columbus Day, Indigenous People’s Day or Monday?

So is today Columbus Day for you or are you going with Indigenous People’s Day? For some it’s just Monday, but whatever floats your boat. Indigenous Peoples’ Day advocates say the recognition helps correct a “whitewashed” American history that has glorified Europeans like Italian explorer Christopher Columbus who have committed violence against Indigenous communities. Some of my Italian American friends might take exception with that, but that’s their right as well. There’s no doubt a lot has ben made about the discovery of America and how native American people have been treated.
