Photos, Videos of Yesterday’s Tornado Outbreak

It was a crazy afternoon in Chicagoland as multiple tornadoes dropped as storms moved through.

To their credit, meteorologists warned us early in the morning we had a chance for significant tornadoes, and upped those chances in the early afternoon. And boy, did it come to fruition!

National Weather Service surveyors are currently assessing damage to see how many tornadoes actually rumbled through our area, but suffice it to say, it was close to double digits!

There were reports of roofs blow off in Countryside, trees and homes damaged in Huntley, car windows blown out near La Grange, 20-inch diameter trees knocked down north of Campton Hills, Western Trails School was damaged in Carol Stream, and building at O’Hare airport were damaged.

What is noteworthy to me is how quickly these tornadoes formed, how many were in the same vicinity, the strength of many of them, and how nearly all super cells that formed were able to produce a tornado.

I believe there were even reports of a tornado at Midway Airport. I’m not sure I ever remember hearing about twisters at both major airports on the same day!

I look forward to hearing official reports from the NWS when they come out.
