Candy Corn Is Not Where It’s At Anymore For Halloween? Where Have I Been?

Hey, it’s Chris Miles and this weekend I got to spend some time with my youngest and her friend. It was our compromise for all the running around she was going to have to do for her older sister’s Homecoming weekend. It was a ton of fun seeing their faces light up as we took them to their favorite store, 5 below. I am not going to lie; I get a kick out of the place too. It is usually a good reason for me to grab my favorite candy bar (it is a whatchamacallit).

Speaking of candy, while we were there my youngest hits me with the “Can we get candy for Halloween now?” question. I will admit it was hard for me to give here the reasons why we could buy any for a few more weeks as she batted her eyes at me, but I held my ground. Honestly, I am the problem, I have a bit of a sweet tooth and I am sure I would have raided most of the stash.

As I told her my reasons, she looked at me and said, well when we do buy some can we get Kit Kats? I said of course and then I did a double take. She usually likes Sour Patch Kids. I was befuddled, so I asked her “what gives?” She told me “Sour Patch Kids are so last year”. Well, OK then.

That got me thinking, just what is this years “it” candy. So I did a little research and according to a study done by Yougove.com (which polled 8-17 year olds), here’s their top five results.

  1. Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups
  2. Snickers
  3. Twix
  4. Kit Kat’s
  5. M&M’s

Sour Patch Kids came in at number seven. Tootsie Rolls, Candy Corn and Smarties are in the bottom three.  So, I guess I will pick up a few of those for myself and my girlfriend.
