Friday the 13th – Maybe Not So Bad?

Hi, it’s Leslie Harris. Happy Friday the 13th! Yes, I said happy, because why not be happy?

I know this date can be scary for some, and I used to be superstitious about it too. I had my first car accident when I was 16 years old on an icy Friday the 13th.

But just as black cats are not considered unlucky in many cultures, neither is Friday the 13th.

For example, in Greece and also many Spanish-speaking countries, Tuesday the 13th is considered to be an unlucky day. Many Greeks just consider Tuesdays in general to be unlucky, but especially if it’s the 13th.

In Italy, beware of Friday the 17th!

If you’re still nervous about Friday the 13th, never fear, it’s almost over and we only have one more this year, in October.

BUT I’VE GOT PROOF! WHAT ABOUT THAT CAR ACCIDENT?

Well, while the car was in pretty bad shape, it wasn’t totaled. In fact, I drove it for many more years. I also had two passengers, and no one sustained any injuries.

So maybe, that Friday the 13th was actually my lucky day.

By the way, many cultures like those of Britain, Ireland and Japan consider black cats to be GOOD luck. Many sailors keep a black cat on board a ship for good luck. My Luna, pictured here, has been good luck for our family.
