Layalina at The Goodman Theatre

Hi this is Leslie Harris, and last week I attended the opening of Layalina at the Goodman Theater in Chicago.

It’s the story of and Iraqi family. It begins in 2003, when the US has taken control of Iraq, and the family is trying to leave for the United States, in the midst of riots in the streets of Baghdad.

The second act fast forwards to Skokie in the year 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic.

I loved how the story showed us a different way of life, but also showed us how similar we are in dealing with familial issues, pandemic issues, and triumph in the face of adversity.

There are some very funny moments, as well as some very tragic moments.

Layalina is playing at the Goodman theater now through April 2 at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Find out more and get tickets HERE
