Library of Congress adds Recordings from John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, and The Police

Hi, it’s Leslie Harris, and every year the Library of Congress adds 25 musical recordings to the National Recording Registry. The list is diverse, and includes rock, pop, folk, world music and even a Christmas song.

Highlights include imagine by John Lennon, Sherry by The Four Seasons, What the World Needs Now is Love by Jackie DeShannon, Synchronicity by The Police, Take Me home Country Roads by John Denver and…Stairway to Heaven!

The lowlight for me would be All I want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, but I digress.

A spokeswoman said, “The National Recording Registry preserves our history through recorded sound and reflects our nation’s diverse culture.”

Also included are Like a Virgin from Madonna, All hail the Queen from Queen Latifah and the Deja Vu album from Crosby stills and Nash. Also, the soundtrack for Super Mario Bros.!
