Here in the suburbs, we have an incredible collection of donut shops making everything from the classics to the custom. There are high quality donut shops in nearly every town from Joliet to Shaumburg and Batavia to Downers Grove. There’s no doubt we have no shortage of fried dough excellence!

If you plan to stuff your face with a Boston creme or long john today, consider one of these local places! These were all personally recommended to us by our Facebook fans and placed on this convenient map. Sure, there are bigger donut chains that produce mass amounts of donuts with comfortable consistency, and there’s a time and a place for that! But if you really want to splurge on something far superior, check out one of these local donut shops!

If your favorite donut shop isn’t on this map, let me know and we’ll get them on there!

And get this! A bunch of Salvation Army locations around the U.S. are handing out donuts today. A lot of people don’t know they actually STARTED National Donut Day in 1938.

It was originally to honor their “Donut Lassies,” who risked their lives to hand out donuts during World War Two.

They also posted their original recipe for powdered sugar donuts online, so anyone can make them at home.
