Fans of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Carl Perkins are in for a treat.

You may know that Dylan wrote “Wanted Man” for Cash. The song debuted live at San Quentin in 1969 – one week after Cash first heard the tune.

Dylan archivists have unearthed that original studio session. You can hear the musicians (Perkins on guitar) along with June Carter Cash advising Johnny to “be sure that Bob puts the melody to that song, that ‘Wanted Man’… you forgot the melody.”

Cash stumbles through the lyrics to his own laughter. Rolling Stone reports the footage will be part a Dylan Box set featuring Cash – “Travelin’ Thru, 1967-1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 15.
