You can probably call this the best catch of his life.

Dramatic video shows an ex-college football wide receiver catch a 3-year-old boy who was thrown off a burning third-story balcony in Phoenix. Twenty Eight-year-old Phillip Banks says he ran outside of his apartment building when he heard a commotion. He saw an apartment fully engulfed in flames and a woman ready to toss her son to another man standby nearby.

Blanks, a former marine, says he didn’t even hesitate and got to the boy just as the mother screamed “Grab him!”

Blanks credits his football days as a wideout at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California.  “I know how to catch. I learned how to catch a football.  So I’ll give some credit to football.”  The boy came down “twirling in the air like a propeller”.

The story isn’t without a tragic side. The boy’s mother didn’t survive the fire. Blanks called her “the real hero of the story”.

The 3-year-old boy and his 8-year-old sister were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
