I did not feel it when it happened, but I saw all the talk on social media!

There was a 3.8 magnitude earthquake centered near Bloomingdale, IN yesterday. It hit around 2:15. Many people say they felt it, and the stats and reports from the United States Geological Survey confirms this! It may have startled some folks, especially near the epicenter, but experts say damage doesn’t occur until magnitudes start getting into the mid-4s. Even so, this was the strongest earthquake to hit the Hoosier state in 11 years (which means, while rare, these events aren’t unheard of).

Here’s what they call a PGA Shake Map.

If you happened to feel the shake, the USGS would like to know! They have a special website to log your experience to help give scientists a better picture of what happened. You can do that here.
