Do It For Yourself

Hi Leslie Harris filling in for Mitch Michaels again. Once again, I’m reminding you to get outside.

I know it’s cold. It was 10° when I left my house this morning, but a friend of mine saw that I had recently gone walking at Waterfall Glen in Willowbrook/Lemont, and she wanted to go, so who am I to say no?

It’s a beautiful place, and the sun was shining. Yes, it was cold, but I wore my snow pants, my snow boots, and several layers. It’s so beautiful there, I think I could go there every week and not get tired of it. And since we’ve been so separated from our friends, it was great to spend time with her. My friend has been feeling anxious, and said she could literally feel herself calming down while we were there.

So once again, I’m telling you to get outside, especially if you can walk with your friends. Getting the exercise and being in nature has been scientifically proven to have positive effects on our physical health, as well as our emotional health and our mental health. If you feel you don’t have the time, remember that self-care makes you a better parent, partner, friend and employee. So get outside!
