Great news for your 4th of July cookout!

Hi, it’s Leslie Harris and if you’re getting together with friends or family for this 4th of July, there’s some great news from the American Farm Bureau. Grocery bills are down 3% from last year’s record high! (which is great news even if you’re not having a cookout)

The Bureau looked at 12 typical items for a cookout like hamburger buns, potato salad and beef, chicken breast, lemonade and chocolate chip cookies. The cost of chicken breast, lemonade and chocolate chip cookies are down, while hamburger buns, beef and potato salad are up.

Last year, the cost of a 4th of July cookout was at a record high, due to supply chain issues and avian flu decimating the chicken population. At $69.68 to feed 10 people, the cost of those items this year is down to $67.73. I know that’s not huge, but at least we’re moving in the right direction!

What’s your favorite 4th of July food to find at a picnic? Let me know in the comments
