Was There Something New on Your Thanksgiving Table?

Hi this is Leslie Harris. A couple of days ago I read a statistic that surprised me. Vegan recipes have been the second most searched for recipe, after turkey this month!

In case you don’t know the difference, vegetarian means no meat, but vegan means no animal products at all, which means no dairy, no eggs, and for hardcore vegans, not even honey. Not even whipped cream on the pumpkin pie! (by the way, if you know of a good whipped cream substitute, let me know. I haven’t found one that I like, and I’ve tried the cool-whip types, almond milk, coconut milk and oat milk ones.)

Now, my oldest has been a vegetarian since eighth grade, so that was more than 10 years ago! We have accommodated her by getting one of those turkeys made out of tofu, but she loves her dairy and eggs.

I’ve been gluten-free for a number of years, but even I will eat a dinner roll on a holiday, so I was surprised to see how many people are searching for vegan recipes. But this also tells me that many people are being extra considerate of their vegan family and friends.

The list of recipe searches for this month goes like this:

1 Turkey recipe

2 Vegan recipes

3 Vegetarian recipes

4  Sweet potato recipe

5 Ham recipe

6 Pie recipe

7 Casserole recipes

8 Green bean recipes

9 Salad recipes

10 Corn recipes

The only thing I searched for was my good old pumpkin pie recipe. It’s the same one I use every year, but it was easier to look up on the internet then it was to find it in my recipe collection.

Did you have any new dishes on your Thanksgiving table this year? Did you search for any recipes on the internet? (Or if you’ve found a good whipped cream substitute!) Let me know in the comments
