Who doesn’t love a metal cover of Celine Dion?

Well, maybe some people.  But that’s not the point.  Metal (or grunge, or alternative) bands have had the guts to put their own spin on artists from John Lennon to Abba!  And at loudersound.com, you have a chance to vote on your pick for the greatest metal cover ever.  (Just search for “covers” once you’re there and you’ll find it.)

Some of the choices that caught my eye:

  • Alien Ant Farm — Smooth Criminal — I remember that one!  Not as different from Michael Jackson’s as you might think.
  • Cannibal Corpse — Metallica’s No Remorse — a metal cover of Metallica?  Hmm.
  • Chicago’s own Disturbed’s cover of The Sound of Silence.
  • Guns N’ Roses — Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door — one of the most widely known songs on the list.
  • Judas Priest — The Green Manalishi — I did not know this was a Fleetwood Mac original!  From their pre-Nicks/Buckingham days.
  • Linkin Park — Adele’s Rolling in the Deep!

As you can see, the definition of “metal” is kind of loose.
