Your Kids In School?

I can remember what a challenge it was to get my 3 younger kids to go to school (pictured above). One at Hinsdale Central, one at Hinsdale Middle School and one at Madison. At least one of them, almost daily, would do the “I don’t want to go to school today, I don’t feel good,  I wanna stay home”.  As a single dad I was at times overwhelmed, but for the most part handled them with care and told them to suck it up …they were going. It seems the pandemic has really affected attendance at schools. Kids now facing the prospect of 5 days a week in the class room and it seems a bit too much. Before the pandemic, about 8 million U.S. students were considered chronically absent. That’s when a student misses 10% or more of the school year. By spring 2022, that number had doubled to around 16 million.

School  Attendance Still Isn’t What It was Before The Pandemic.
