In Will County, the new diverging-diamond interchange at I-55 and Weber Road was honored in the technology and innovation category. Since the populations of Bolingbrook and Romeoville have exploded, so has the traffic. This project has not only made transit easier, but has also made it more safe.
And in Chicago, the Jane Byrne interchange won for the quality of life for transit, bike, pedestrian and other mobility improvements. That project was one of the biggest in the history of Illinois, and cost more than $800 million. These projects were highlighted because they will have a positive impact for many years.
