Do We Really Need This New Holiday?

Hey it’s Leslie. The bad news is that St Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday this year. The good news is that one beverage company has decided to start a new tradition called St Patrick’s Eve.

This is kind of a big deal. None other than Saturday night lives Colin Jost and Michael Che will be hosting Jameson St Patrick’s Eve on March 16th in New York’s Times Square!
Michael Che had this to say:
“Why not Saint Patrick’s Eve? You’ve got Christmas Eve, you’ve got New Year’s Eve.”
And instead of having a ball drop, there will be a rock drop at 8:00 p.m. in Times Square which is midnight in Ireland. People who are 21 and over can watch a live stream of the rock drop.
And that’s not all! Jameson will also take over the sphere in Las Vegas, lighting it up in Jameson green, and in Chicago, they’ll be wrapping fairies and Water taxis in the Chicago River. They’re also doing a digital takeover in L.A.
Obviously, this is a huge marketing campaign for Jameson, and they’re going to be spending a boatload on it, but do you think it will have people drink more Jameson? And do we really need to declare a Saint Patrick’s Day Eve, when we know that people are going to be celebrating anyway?
