Fun Ways to Become More Involved With Nature

It’s Leslie Harris, and several years ago, I was asked by my manager to submit a picture of myself hugging a tree, because not only am I the resident crazy cat lady, the resident Aerosmith superfan, but I am also the resident tree hugger.

I started recycling way before curbside pickup. I would lug bags of bottles cans and newspapers to recycling facilities.
I know some of my neighbors are unhappy with me because I refuse to use pesticides on my lawn.
I try to eat organic, or at least pesticide free, natural foods without preservatives.
And Earth Day and Arbor Day are coming! Naperville has lots of fun stuff for people who are environmentally conscious, and for those who are looking to become more environmentally conscious.
The One Earth film festival runs from April 17th through April 23rd. You can see movies that show the importance of conservation, including Common Ground, carbon: the unauthorized biography and more throughout the Chicago area.
There’s an Arbor Day tree sale, but you must pre-order online by April 17th at 5:00 p.m. or when the trees sell out. Pick up is on Saturday April 20th, and there’s a limit of six per resident.
A shredding event will be happening Saturday April 20th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the centennial Beach parking lot on Jackson Avenue in Naperville. You can drop off up to two boxes of documents to be shredded and recycled for free.
And the Morton Arboretum is having an arbor Day plant sale from April 25th through April 27th. Thousands of plants will be available, and expert plant geniuses will be on hand.
There are several more events ongoing throughout the month of May. You can get details about all of these and HERE
