Many local events have had to cancel for various reasons this festival season, but you can count Geneva’s beloved Swedish Days as one of the events that will go on as scheduled!

The Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals will take place June 24th-27th in the streets of downtown Geneva (yes, a bit shorter in duration than the usual week-long celebration).

Just because the event is happening does NOT mean it will happen without proper safety protocols in place. Some familiar events will be executed slightly differently.

DALA-PALOOZA will take place at Northwestn Medicine Field, home of the Kane County Cougars. Live music, food, drinks and other entertainment is on tap! Tickets are now available for that!

The SWEDISH DAYS LOPP 5K is also ready to run! You can register for that here.

You must also purchase tickets if youd like to participate in one of this year’s new events; the Choklad Crawl (or Chocolate Crawl if you can’t decipher the Swedish). Fourteen restaurants will have chocolate offerings for patrons to try. Yeah…that one sounds fun!

Here’s a list of activities going on throughout the weekend as written by the organizers:

The community and visitors look forward to Geneva festivals year after year. Knowing that our first thought, during these uncertain times,is the health and safety of those who may attend a festival, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce is announcing changes to the 2021 Swedish Days festival. This year’s festival will be held June 2427, 2021. Please note, this is not the final lineup and is meant only to notify the public on events we are able to plan currently.

Live music, both in a venue and in the downtown area is planned. The downtown area will focus on small musical and/or acoustical acts. Dates, venue and bands will be announced later this month.

The Geneva Settler’s Coffee will return to Geneva Golf Club on June 24. As was done last year, the breakfast will be executed in a pickup format.

Kids’ Day will be on June 25. Activities will vary and location may change. The Kids’ Day parade will not be part of the 2021 Kids’ Day.

New this year will be a Chocolate Crawl on June 27. This will be a ticketed event.

Geneva’s shops and restaurants will be open and we expect many will be tying into our 2021 Swedish Days excitement.

Due to the advanced planning required, the number of attendees both in the parade and spectators along with the current phase the State of IL is in, with regret we will be canceling the Swedish Days parade which would have been held on June 27.

Additionally, the Arts & Craft Show and Granquist Music Festival will also not be in this year’s lineup.

At this time, the parade and the Arts & Craft Show are the only things that have been fully canceled for Swedish Days.

The Geneva Chamber is continuing to plan for a safe, shortened Swedish Days, abiding by state and city regulations.

As we are unsure what phase we will be in, please note that events we are planning, especially those on public property, may have to be modified.

We are well aware that Swedish Days is a tradition and was greatly missed last year. The Chamber is creatively planning events offsite that will be crowd controlled and safe,” said Paula Schmidt, President of Geneva Chamber of Commerce. We hope to organize more events and happenings, however we must follow city and state regulations, while keeping everyone healthy and safe. Please be patient as we move forward.”

More information will be released when finalized. Updates on all festivals and events may be found at genevachamber.com.

See you out there, vänner!
