Happy Birthday John
Hey it’s Leslie Harris, and today is the anniversary of the birth of John Lennon. John would have been 83 today. I was recently reading a bit about John and discovered that there are many memorials to him around the world. Here are some of them:
The John Lennon educational tour bus:
This bus travels around the country, and is committed to reaching youth through music and video.
The Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland:
A white stone monument has the words Imagine Peace carved into it, in 24 languages. It projects a tall tower of light.
Parque John Lennon is a public park in Havana Cuba. On one of the benches sits a life-size statue of John Lennon, and you can sit on the bench and have your photo taken with him.
Non-Violence, also called The Knotted Gun, is a sculpture of an oversized revolver with a knot tied in the muzzle. It sits at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, and there are 17 replicas of it around the world.
And of course there’s Strawberry Fields in Central Park in New York City, complete with the Imagine mosaic.
Have you been to any of these memorials, or any others? Let us know in the comments, and post pictures if you have them.
