Happy Hanukkah!

Hi, this is Leslie Harris, and Hanukkah begins at sundown today, Thursday December 7th and ends at sundown on Friday December 15th.

Hanukkah is known as the Festival of lights or the Feast of the Dedication. It celebrates the victory of the Maccabees, and the miracle of the oil they had, which was really only enough for one night, but lasted for eight.

Most Jewish households will light the menorah to remember this miracle, and many will also say prayers while lighting the candles.

Some families will exchange presents, some may play a game of dreidel, and some may cook meals including potato latkes.

I love learning about and celebrating other cultures and religions. I’ve had my own menorah for many years, and I will be lighting it tonight.

Will you be observing Hanukkah? Let me know in the Facebook comments
