Name a Superstitious Song. #Friday13th
So how you handle today is really all about how superstitious you are. For some it’s just Friday… for others this Harvest Moon Friday 13th is a day filled with trepidation. So of course we need a soundtrack to accompany it. There have been some songs written about our superstitions (the most famous being by Stevie Wonder of course) but I think there are quite a few unsettling songs that could fill out our soundtrack like the one below.
Although not as popular as Santana’s arrangement, “Black Magic Woman” by Fleetwood Mac was still a fairly popular blues rock hit . It was featured in Fleetwood Mac live set-lists even after its writer Peter Green had left the band. Truth be told I am not a big Santana fan so I really like this version better.
In fact in 2019 the song returned to the Fleetwood Mac live set list featuring Stevie Nicks on lead vocals and Mike Campbell handling lead guitar duties. (It’s played with an extended jam with the song spanning 7 minutes with frequent groove and tempo changes. (You can totally see the chemistry between Stevie and Mike. They’ve known each other since the 1970’s collaborations with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers .)
So enjoy this (IMHO) better version of Black Magic Woman and Happy Friday 13th .. bwah ha ha!!
Oh and here is the Black Magic Woman herself … Stevie Nicks singing it live with Mike Campbell on guitar.
