Not Gonna Lie, I Got A little Teary
Leslie Harris in for Mitch Michaels this week, and on Saturday I went to the movies, and it was GLORIOUS!
I knew my friend Sara was going to see In the Heights by herself on Friday, (Sara’s a HUGE movie buff) and then I saw my friend Jen was also posting about going to see it. I was sitting around the house on Saturday, ya know when it was raining, so I decided to see it too.
This is a movie that I have been looking forward to for a long time. I absolutely loved Hamilton, and I saw the stage production of In the Heights about 5 years ago. The music for both of these shows was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and before the movie started, there was a clip of Lin-Manuel along with the director, and the writer of the story, welcoming us back to the theater. Honestly, I got a little teary.
While I love going to the movies, for me it’s even more about life getting back to normal after the pandemic.
By the way, In the Heights was phenomenal. Big song and dance numbers like the old time musicals, with a great storyline.
I really wanted to see this on a big screen, and I’m so glad I did because I think with the spectacle of it, it would have lost a lot on a smaller screen. Plus, I went to see it at my favorite theater in the whole world, the Tivoli in downtown Downers Grove. It’s a gorgeous old theater, with modern technology, the best popcorn and great prices. My only disappointment was that the theater was almost empty on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Have you been back to a movie theater? Will you be going back anytime soon? Let me know in the comments. I highly recommend it!
