Not What I Thought it Was Gonna Be!

Leslie Harris here, and as you probably know, I love live music, and I love to rock. Aerosmith, Foo Fighters and The Rolling Stones are among my favorite bands. Taylor Swift? Not so much, but some of her music is fun, and I like how she presents herself in public.

Last night, Sparks Fly – The Taylor Swift Experience was playing a show at the Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove, so I grabbed some friends and decided to go to the show. I’m so glad I did!

First of all, Sammy Jo is a talented young woman from Joliet. She’s got a beautiful voice, and she’s a great guitar player. (Side note, I hope she’s also working on her own music and that we get to see more of her)

The concert started off with some quieter balance, and then the band launched into one of her upbeat pop songs. Sorry I don’t know the name of it, but many other people did! It was fun to see kids running up to the stage, and more than a couple of moms too! More and more people started filtering up to the stage, and they sang and danced with the band the whole night.

This brought me so much joy. Those kids were me at that age, and I love that they’re already learning the joy of live music.

I myself got up and sang and danced to a few of the songs that I knew like Blank Space and Shake It Off.

This is not the first time I’ve been surprised by enjoying a live musical performance that I was not especially excited about, but when the music is good, there’s no place I’d rather be.

Have you ever been surprised, pleasantly or unpleasantly, by a live musical performance? Let me know in the Facebook .
