The Fascinating History of Trains, Now in Aurora
Hi it’s Leslie Harris, and I love the IDEA of trains. I remember reading about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s first train trip, and how exciting it was for her.
While I don’t actually love riding trains, learning about them is fun, and there is a free exhibit happening now at the Aurora History Museum.
Aurora and the Burlington Railroad: Celebrating 175 years exhibit includes photos, an actual hand car, keys, signs, a bell from Chicago, two train pieces from a 1964 train accident in Montgomery, and perhaps the coolest piece, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) railroad steam engine #4956. (and more)
This free exhibit runs now through August 17th, 2024 at the Aurora Historical Society, 20 East Downer place, Aurora.
Hours are noon to 4:00 Wednesdays through Fridays, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. While you’re there, be sure to stop by the gift shop.
