Looks like the mayor of Kaua’i means business when it comes to caution about COVID-19.  A Hawaiian couple that live there flew home from San Francisco despite testing positive, and upon arrival were arrested!

Authorities say the couple knew they had tested positive but still boarded the flight from San Francisco International Airport to their home in Kaua’i on Sunday.  The couple have been charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and are currently in quarantine while contract tracing is done.  They were traveling with a 4-year-old child who has been left in the care of a relative.

The mayor is defending the decision to arrest the couple.  Mayor Kawakami said the arrests were necessary because the island is in the midst of an “unprecedented surge” in COVID cases – at least from his point of view.  As of Wednesday, Kaua’i was reporting 16 active cases!

Now that is what I call caution.  But maybe he has the right idea.  After all, it started here on the mainland with one or two cases, right?
