Welcome Relief for Our Neighbors in Need
Hey, it’s Leslie. As you know, 95.9 The River has a food drive for the Aurora Food Pantry every November. This past November we learned that while we all hoped that the need would decrease after the pandemic, just the opposite has happened, and the need for food pantries continues to rise.
Here’s some good news: The Du Page county board has pledged over a million dollars in funds to more than a dozen area food pantries, from DuPage County’s Local Food Pantry Infrastructure Investment Program. This program was founded in 2023 to support food pantries through the American Rescue Plan Act.
The food pantries that will benefit include:
Bensenville Wood Dale food pantry
Downers Grove area FISH
Elmhurst Yorkfield food pantry
Glen House Food pantry
HCS Family services
ICNA relief USA programs
Interfaith food pantry
Lisle township food pantry
Loaves and Fishes community services
Milton Township food pantry
Neighborhood food pantries
People’s Resource Center
The Outreach House
The Salvation Army Oakbrook Terrace
Wayne Township Food Pantry
West Suburban Community Pantry
While a million dollars sounds like a lot, it won’t last forever. Reach out and donate to your local food pantry if you are able.
