You Can Help Honor This WWII Navy Veteran

Hi, this is Leslie Harris and you can help honor a local US Navy veteran who is turning 100 years old!

Estelle J Leinin graduated from Providence High School in Chicago in 1940. She served in the US Navy W.A.V.E.S. program, or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service during WWII.

It is estimated that 87,000 women participated in the waves program during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. The program helped to establish women in all branches of the US military.

Estelle Leinen was stationed at Great lakes Naval Base as a Storekeeper Second Class to the Commissary Department. She was honorably discharged on August 6th 1946.

Estelle will turn 100 years old on April 16, 2022, and is one the last remaining WAVES veterans who served in WWII.
