AT&T Customers Will Be Reimbursed For Outage…and Ideas On What to Do With Your New Fortune!

Remember the AT&T cellular outage last week? Did you think to yourself, “Hey…this isn’t cool! I pay for this service, and now I’m not getting it…I should get my money back!” Well, AT&T agrees!

The mobile carrier is reimbursing customers for Thursday’s lengthy wireless outage!

Customers will receive a $5 credit to cover the “average cost of a full day of service”, the carrier said in a statement. Hey, it’s not much, I get it. But something is better than nothing, honestly the mea culpa is more valuable in my mind than the five bucks.

AT&T says:

We recognize the frustration this outage has caused and know we let many of our customers down,” the company said late Saturday. “We understand this may have impacted their ability to connect with family, friends, and others. Small business owners may have been impacted, potentially disrupting an essential way they connect with customers.

To help make it right, we’re reaching out to potentially impacted customers and we’re proactively applying a credit* to their accounts. We want to reassure our customers of our commitment to reliably connect them – anytime and anywhere. We’re crediting them for the average cost of a full day of service.

The outage lasted nearly 12 hours and affected over 70,000 people.

AT&T says the credit will not apply to customers under their Business or Prepaid plans or those who use Cricket Wireless. As for when you’ll see the credit on your bill, “We issue bills every day, so customers will see the credit in 1-2 bill cycles depending on when their bill closes. Most credits will be posted in the next billing cycle.”

As for what caused the outage, AT&T says “Our initial review of the cause of Thursday’s outage indicates it was due to the application and execution of an incorrect process used while working to expand our network, not a cyber attack. We are investing billions to grow our network and deliver an exceptional customer experience. This is both a point of pride and a challenge that always requires care and focus.”
